made a couple of cupcakes lately. all of experimental purposes, of-course.

but before that, i wanna show you my very boring, under-decorated BUT yummy chocolate cupcakes. XD

made them for daddy's friend's son? yeah. i think. anyhow, daddy's friend said that my cupcakes looked boring. very under-decorated, compared to the other ones that were there too. but the thing is, mine tasted better, or so they say. so mine ended up, being eaten. now, do i prefer to be pretty and no one wants me? or un-pretty yet people eat me. haha. eat me! rawr!

(besides, they're for a boy. how decorative can my brain get when it comes to manly cupcakes?)

ok. next on the agenda. Orange Ginger Cupcakes topped with Cream Cheese then sprinkled with Cinnamon Sugar.

that's my naked Orange Ginger cupcake right there. haha. i haven't uploaded a topped and sprinkled version. will do it later or tomorrow. anyhow, at first i didn't want to put orange in them but then thought, karang padas gila. haha. i tasted a drink with ginger once. bukan jamu-jamu atu eh. a watermelon plus ginger fruit juice. gilak. padas. so back to the cupcake, i added orange. it was fine. the orange wasn't too overpowering. you can still taste the lingering ginger on the tongue. in my opinion la. pasal adi ku makan, and well, ya na terasa.

and then... i baked some Gooey Butter Cupcake. TOO SWEET for me. macam sakit kepala tarus manis nya atu. haha. will have to cut down on the sugar and the cake... it was too heavy. i will have to re-do it soon enough.

buttercreams! there are so many versions of buttercreams... like, the typical buttercream also known as the american buttercream, the swiss meringue buttercream, the italian buttercream and even, uhm, banyak lagi. i'm sure there's many variations of buttercream out there. i haven't had time to try all of them yet. haha.

personally, i prefer the typical normal buttercream. so simple and easy and very good to work with. not too soft, not too stiff. a little bit too sweet though, but they are CREAMS! on a cake! so it is supposed to be sweet. inda ka? hmm. i like it sweet.

so for CC, this is mine...

oh and i like doing it in bulk 'cause you can keep it in the esbok in an airtight container and re-use it again nanti.

anyhoo...

main ingredients:

- 150gm margerine or butter (salted or unsalted)

- 150gm shortening

- 300gm icing sugar

- 1 tsp. of vanilla extract/essence

- a few drops of almond extract/essence

- food coloring

- milk

what to do:

- with a hand mixer, mix the margerine/butter with the shortening until really mixed. until really, really mixed. like really, really mixed. haha.

- then masuk kan the icing sugar. slowly, to avoid a puffy sweet mess. but if you're like me and think that messes are part of baking fun, then high speed pun inda apa. hehe. mix until it's really white and fluffy. macam kambang berabis.

- done! yayys! well, not really. then add, the vanilla and almond and mix again. leave the mixer for a couple of minutes.

- and then, here is where the fun part really comes. add your drops of food coloring... pink ka, blue ka, campur aduk ka. hehe. if you want a stronger vanilla, just add more. don't overdo the almond though. a few drops pun sudah strong for me.

- oh, add milk only if you think it's too stiff (karas) and mana tau mau lagi licak sikit... a teaspoon at a time and check consistency!

- tada! done! yayys!

anyhow, the one i bought was a metal piping nozzle and the disposable piping bag. then just push the icing out and do swirlies. hehe. i'm sorry. i know that does not seem helpful. but i do that. uhm, i guess if you're baking normal size cupcakes, you'd need a bigger star nozzle. makes the design bigger. but i do mini-sized ones. i'm sure you could still ice a normal-sized cupcakes with a small nozzle, it's just a matter of extra work. but it's fun!

question though... what icing are you using?

personally, i love the slap-on icing style. y'know, yang antam saja tia. and it's just there on top of the cake. it gives out a feeling of it being homemade. hehe.

now. i did this for sabine. i swear, she is a DARLING! d-a-r-l-i-n-g! MAJOR DARLING! haha. was gonna go for something halloweeny but i failed fantastically. yeap. i don't even know what it is! by the way, be sure to check out her blog if you wanna see me without makeup, and ugly hair. haha. inda sampat berusai tadi ba!

see, when i bake. i always make extra two pieces for me'self, see. and i just ADORE my orange swiss meringue buttercream icing. haha. nyaman jua. hee.

today i had the chance to play around with swiss meringue buttercream icing, and frankly, it sucks. well, i suck. it was too soft? nah, too heavy? oh i don't know. something is just off. oh but the taste is heavenly! nyaman. i am going to try it again though. it is said to be the best icing there is.

and i can't decide whether i like my icing sickeningly sweet or subtlety sweet. whether i like it gritty or smooth.

i haven't got the chance to try out fondant. i've been reading reviews that it doesn't taste as good as it looks. i should try getting those packaged fondant. expensive ba~

cupcakes for sabine. weehoo! vanilla cupcakes (as usual) with royal icing frosting base and buttercream swirly top. i failed at the swirly tops. lol. some looked really pretty, and then some looked "eh?". haha.

i want to play around with fondant!

i've been waking up early lately. maybe it's all this sugar rush. maybe. so i went to leApple again to search for meringue powder. i thought they'd might be cheaper than wasting eggs. but no, too expensive, especially when i have no job at the moment. lol.

anyhoo, honey joys...

...just because i have nothing to do. lol.

i still had a lot of time to spare, so i thought i'd try some royal icing. well, well, well... i think this icing looks better from the buttercream ones. i don't know about the taste though. puasa kali ah. lol.

anyhow, i was feeling really paranoid that i messaged the cousin to ask how the cupcakes was. her response was sweet. i don't know if she was just being polite and making me feel better but i worked. lol.

this journey isn't so sweet at the moment.

i was gonna bake a cake for the dad but the sister thought it would be better if i just did cupcakes. which i did. normal sized ones. lol. so with the help of the sister, we made 48 cupcakes. lol. this time, we don't have to buy them! lol.

no, that's not the total 48 cupcakes. lol. the other were put on a different tray and oh, it's such a good feeling when you know the kids loved them! the cream was too sweet though. will need to adjust that soon.

and for the cake i want to bake, i'll just bake a cake for the friend who's birthday is up in a few days. lol.

oh and below is my personal favorite cupcake. done by me for me. lol. i was experimenting on stuff and i loved how it turned out to be!

i am going to try and use royal icing and fondant next. mhmm, maybe fondant for the friend's cake! oh. wouldn't that be nice!

oh and we made sugar cookies too because the sister just loves them!

this evening, the sisters had their boys over so i made them decorate their own cupcake. daus with the pink one. marul with the blue bitten one. he took a bite faster than i can say, "let's take a picture". lol. princess posing with hers. eva's two tone cupcake and my white one! pinkie didn't feel like decorating much today.

i went to LeApple Bakery with the mom and princess to get stuff for my new interest. it felt good to have a mom who's supportive. lol. i've got myself a new hand mixer and a piping bag. i wanted to get the pre-made fondant but thought, it was too expensive. lol.

so with the new piping bag in hand, i've revamped my mini-cupcakes.

and for a beginner enthusiast, i can't help but say... i'm doing good. lol. yes, let me dwell in my own wishful glory. oh i also made a not-bad-but-kinda-ugly chocolate chip cookie. i swear, it tastes better than it looks. i have people with good testimonials. ask yaya or fatin. and if they're lying... i'll... i'll... nah, i don't think they are. lol.

want to try some? lol. but if you like them, you're gonna have to buy them... hehe.

oh, by the way, it's the dad's second birthday (yes, he get's two birthdays in a year) today! let's see what i'll be making for him later. lol.

i've always been doted on sweet stuff. like good cakes, good cookies, good chocolate and especially good candies.

and so, after a night of having nothing to do. i put aside my computer and went down stairs to antam bake. a mixture of this, a mixture of that and voila, a disaster.

but i tried again the next day, and i have to say... it's EDIBLE! yayy! and it's pretty too. my first cupcake ever!

it makes me even more happy when the man asked if it was possible to cover everything with cream. oh yes, he LOVED my cream. lol.
